Prohibited Items / Dress Code Violation Policy / Points of Claification
Every student shall maintain a reasonable standard of dress that is appropriate to the role of the student, reflective of the age level and conductive to a wholesome climate for learning. Dress and gromming which are distractive or disruptive to the educational process are prohibited.
Dress and grooming in the flint Community Schools will be based on common sense, good judgement, and good taste. Unusal or exaggerated modes of dress and conspicuous departures from accepted norms in dress and grooming are prohibited. Clothing that advocates the used of illegal substances, advertises alcohol or tabacco, or contains offensive language/material or inference is prohibited.

Dresses, skirts, or shorts shorter than 2 inches above the knee. Clothing that is too tight or revealing. Pants MUST be secured so that undergarments are not visible. Shirts shall be long enough to cover the top of pants, shorts, and or skirts.
Items (including clothing, bookbags, notebooks, other school supplies) with inappropriate messages, pictures or photographs deemed obscene.
Items displaying illegal substances or activities of those that are prohibited for minors.
Items containing messages that are defamatory, socially offensice, or discriminating toward another group or individual.
Any clothing, gang colors, or insignia deemed to be gang related and any outward display of gang-associated behavior as determined by local law inforcement officials.
Hats, caps, scarves, 'do-rags', coats and jackets may NOT be worn during the school day. (Exceptions made if necessary for religious/medical reasons).
Flip-flops, house shoes, or any foot covering deemed by administration to be either a health or safety risk.
See-through blouses and shirts, sleeveless shirts and blouses, tank tops, tube tops, and halter tops, and outfits (top & bottom) with sexually explicit, illegal activity, or socially offensive messages.
Pajamas and all look alikes.
All pants MUST be fastened at the WAIST.
All baseball caps and other hats will be placed in lockers and NOT carried around throughtout the school day. Any hat seen by administratrion, teachers, or staff will be confiscated.
Any student dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to remain in school. Please insure that your student is dressed appropriately before coming to school.

First Violation - Parent contacted to inform and/or bring appropriate item to student.
Second Violation - Classes closed for parent conference.
Third (or more) Violation - One to three day suspension.

- * - Dress and Appearance - * -
Students are required to wear appropriate clothing. Examples of inappropriate dress includes: flip-flops, house shoes, shorts and skirts that do not reach the student's finger tips when extened toward the knee.
Shirst MUST be tucked in, tops may be button down, polo or blouses, no blue jeans and pants MUST be secured at the WAIST. Students will be allowed to wear school colors for building sporting events to show school spirit.
